Ephesians 5, And What It Means Today

God’s Word Never Changes

Ephesians 5 is about practical and relative ways that apply to daily living. We need to learn why Ephesians 5 is important and how it applies to us in the 21st Century. Why? Because we have strayed off the path of God and how we should be living. Our society is lost in Sin!

Because of sin, we have same-sex marriages. Because of sin, we have violence in our streets. Because of sin, the Church is falling away and so like the world, you can see little difference. But Paul provides instructions and guidelines on sexual propriety, speech, drinking, and marriage.

Ephesians 5:5-7

God does not want us cut-off from everyone, not even sinners, but He does want us as Christians to participate in fowl languages or coarse stories.

In Luke 5:30-32, Jesus’ advises his disciples to befriend sinners and lead them to the Church.

In Ephesians 5, Paul speaks against a lifestyle where people make excuses for bad behavior. Bad behavior can pollute the Church endangering the Unity and Purpose of the Church. People with bad behavior can lead the Church into darkness because they oppose everything Christianity stands for and spread pure evil against the teachings of Jesus.

Luke 5:30-32

30. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

31. Jesus answered them, “It is not healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Ephesians 5:8

If we are filled with light, our actions should Reflect Faith, living above reproach. This means we should reflect on the goodness of God, so others may see good behavior in our life.

Jesus stressed this behavior when he was on earth.

Matthew 5:15, 16

15. Do not hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all.

16. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Ephesians 5:10-14, As followers of Christ, we must not keep quiet when we witness evil and darkness. Why? Because silence is interpreted as Approval. As followers of Christ, we must stand against bad behavior, exposing these evil deeds.

Ephesians 5:14

Paul is appealing to the Ephesians and telling them to wake up and realize the dangerous condition to which some of them were falling.

“Awake, O sleeper rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”

This text is based on a hymn from the following Bible texts:

Isaiah 26:19 Song of Praise

Yet, we have this assurance: Those who belong to God will live; their bodies will rise again!

Those who sleep in the earth will rise and sing for joy!

For God’s light of life will fall like dew on his people in place of the dead!

51:17 Wake up, wake up, O Jerusalem! You have drunk enough from the cup of the Lord’s fury. You have drunk the cup of terror, tipping out its last drops.

52:1 Wake up, wake up, O Zion! Clothe yourselves with strength. Put on your beautiful clothes, O holy city of Jerusalem, for unclean and godless people will no longer enter your gates.

60:1 Future Kingdom (Future Glory for Jerusalem)

Arise Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all the nations to see! For the glory of the Lord is shining upon you.”

Malachi 4:2, The Coming Day of Judgment

But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing to his wings. *” And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture.”

Ephesians 5:15 and 16,

Paul shows excellent urgency in Eph. 5:15,16 to communicate with the people because of the pervasiveness of evil. Our world today is filled with evil much like during t Paul’s time. Today our streets are filled with anger and hostility, making it challenging to live by godly standards, act wisely, or do good.

Ephesian 18,

Paul is contrasting being drunk with being filled with the Holy Spirit. Getting drunk was the old way of getting high, but as a follower of Christ, you should be increased or drunk on the Holy Spirit. You do not need drugs or liquor to feel good. As followers of Christ, we never have to be concerned with the amount of the Holy Spirit
we consume. We should and can submit ourselves to daily doses and draw continually on the power of the Holy Spirit.

Ephesian 20,

This verse is about feelings and giving thanks. Somedays, we may find it difficult to praise God or give thanks. It is no surprise if you feel less like praising today; after all, we are in a Pandemic. Some may have lost jobs or businesses and do not know when or if you will ever regain what has been lost.

But this should not prevent us from offering praise and thanksgiving! Because in all things, God works for our good if we love Him. God’s perfect love will see you through.

Have Faith!

Ephesian 21-22,

These verses are about the submission of wives and husbands to one another. This does not mean you should become a doormat. Christ does not want us to be doormats to anyone, not even Him. Though we are to bow and confess to God only.

Philippians 2:10 substantiates Jesus as the only one we must bow to and confess his name.  Christ is our example, and we should follow his example as He did when following the will of his Father.

At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the ground.

In Ephesians 21-22, husbands and wives are called to submit. If both have a strong relationship with God, there is no problem in submission. Because both are concerned with the happiness of each other.

Ephesians 22-24,

Is about the submission of women, children, and slaves to the Head of Family. The only ones required to submit all their lives are women. And slaves until they are freed. Male children are submissive until they come of age.

Paul emphasizes Gal. 3:28, in the body of Christ, showing everyone is equal in the Church:

“There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female. For you are one in Christ Jesus.”

The Church family of Christ has chosen to submit to one another. This choice maintains respect, harmony, and love in the family of Christ.

Ephesians 22-24,

This scripture is not well accepted today. However, it does not make it incorrect. Scriptures tell us the man is the spiritual head of the family, and wives should be submissive to his leadership. A Christ-honoring wife will not undermine her husband’s leadership because if a husband or wife overrules and disrespects their mate, it creates disunity within the family.

Ephesians 22-28,

Paul tells women to submit to their husbands because of Roman law. The Roman law gave unlimited power to the head of the family, and many men were not accustomed to treating their wives with respect and love. But in the body of Christ, both males and females were required to love and respect one another.

Ephesians 25 – ff

Many saw the counsel of Paul be harmful because of the counsel he provided in 1 Cor. 7:32-38,

32.” I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord. 33. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife—

 34. and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband. 35. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.

36. If anyone is worried that he might not be acting honorably toward the virgin he is engaged to, and if his passions are too strong[a] and he feels he ought to marry, he should do as he wants. He is not sinning. They should get married. 37. But the man who has settled the matter in his own mind, who is under no compulsion but has control over his own will, and who has made up his mind not to marry the virgin—this man also does the right thing. 38. So then, he who marries the virgin does right, but he who does not marry her does better.”

Ephesians shows high regard for marriage. The text shows marriage is not a necessity or cure for lust but a picture of the relationship between Christ and the Church!

Paul’s counsel in Ephesians 5 and 1 Corinthians is different because times were different. There was persecution in Corinth at the time when he spoke. Still, in Ephesians, his counsel is a more biblical idea of a marriage where Paul sees the union of marriage as a living symbol and unique relationship which needs tender and self-sacrificing care.

Ephesians 25-30,

In this text, Paul spends more time telling wives what they must do to submit to their husbands than telling husbands what they must do for their wives.

Paul says men must do the following to submit to their wives:

  1. Be willing to sacrifice everything for her (wife).
  2.  Make her well-being of primary importance.
  3. Care for her as he cares for his own body.

These words were meant to alleviate women’s fear of submission to a man.

Ephesians 26-27,

Heb. 10:29,

“Think how much more terrible the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God and have treated the blood of the covenant as if it were common and unholy. Such people have insulted and engaged the Holy Spirit, who brings God’s mercy to his people.”

Heb. 13:12, “Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make his people holy by shedding his own blood.”

“Christ cleansed the Church through baptism, which is our entrance into the Church. It is the Word that cleanses us.”

John 17:17,

“Make them pure and holy by teaching them your words of truth.”

Titus 3:5,

“He (Jesus) saved us, not because of the good things we did, but because of his mercy.”

Ephesian 31-33,

The marriage merges two individuals with little that does not affect the other because marriage is Oneness.

Marriage means caring for one another (Your Spouse) as you care for yourself. It through marriage, we learn to anticipate the needs of your spouse, helping each other to become your Best. The story of Creation tells us God’s Plan for his Creation, man and woman were to become husband and wife.

Genesis 2:24,

“This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”

Matthew 19:4-6,

4. “Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” They record that from the beginning, God made them male and female,

5. And he said, “This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”

6. Since they are no longer two but one, let no one separate them, for God has joined them together.

Praying this short article has or will open your eyes to the condition of our Nation and World. If you are already a follower of Christ and have strayed. Find a Good God based Church and get your life together. God is still in the Business of Forgiving Sin!

Who Are the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse?

The four horsemen of the apocalypse are four biblical figures from the Book of Revelation revealed at the unsealing of the first four of Seven Seals. Each horseback rider represents a different facet of the apocalypse:

  • Conquest
  • War
  • Famine and
  • Death

The Book of Revelation is a difficult book to comprehend due to extensive symbolism. However, not everyone desires to read the last Book of the NT or understand end-time prophecies. Many are terrified because they fear future judgments coming on humanity.

Why do most readers of Revelation fear the prophecies of this last book in the NT? Probably because of a sinful lifestyle outside the teaching of scripture!

Revelation promises Christians blessings and hope. But warnings sinners of what is to come to those living without Christ. If you are born again, there is nothing to fear,  unless you are living in SIN.

Scripture tells us, “God is not willing that any should perish” (2 Peter 3:9 NIV).

The Apostle John’s Revelation From God

The Apostle John is given a glimpse into the future of God’s people and events that will affect humanity.

Not everything John saw was good, but as a “True” follower of Christ, you need to hear and understand what is at stake if Sin dominates your life!

God does not want any to perish. God is Holy and can not be in the presence of unholiness. If we sin and dishonor his commandments, it is not God who will send you to Hell but your irresponsible choices!

As Christians, we should take heart to Rev 1:1-20, and what God says to the Seven Churches in Asia (Rev. 2:1-3:22).

John is shown a mosaic of drama with a majestic view of the future where God reveals the fall of man and evil, culminating with the rise of the Anti-Christ (Rev. 4:1-18:24).

Some speculate John’s exile was a punishment from the Romans, but it was a blessing from God who wanted us to know the repercussions of Sin!

John describes the Book of Revelation as a panoramic and wondrous view of God’s plan for humanity.

God loves us and has chosen to reveal the future to anyone desiring to understand future prophetic events.

There will be a great victory when Jesus returns; then, he will save those who trust him, and judgment will come to the world!

The White Horses of the Apocalypse

There are warnings of the 4 – horses from the Book of Revelation on the Apocalypse! Yes, there are many warnings, even as I write this, the apocalypse horses are making their assigned rides!

As followers of Christ, you should see the evidence of their ride and affects in today’s world, understanding God reveals many things to his followers, but we may fail to understand the implications!

The broken Four Broken Seals of the horsemen reveal humanity’s history and how God will use Satan and his enemies to accomplish his purpose. These horses forecast coming judgments on the world. For God does nothing without giving humanity a chance to Repent.

However, if you refuse to read God’s road map, You Will Be Lost!

 The White Horsemen Of Prophecy

The 4-horses of end-time prophecy reveal God’s coming judgments. He is coming to judge those who rebelled against him.

God’s judgment and decision have been forthcoming for humanity since the fall in the Garden of Eden.

God already destroyed the world during Noah’s time But showed favor to him and his family. Yet, after the flood, God promised never to destroy the world with water again; next time, he would use fire to destroy the world.  This promise of fire, not water, indicates that God knew humanity would sin again and need punishment in the future.

The Rider on the White horse represents False Religion. Some believe the Rider of the White horse is Christ. However, this is not true.  Christ will come later riding to victory on a white horse.

Political correctness has taken over the United States, a nation founded on religious principles. Even the principles of God no longer exist. The so-called Church has become like the world, silent against Sin.

The First Rider of the White Horse is likely a False Prophet or Church claiming to teach the word of God. The False Prophet will support homosexuality and other sexual and worldly sins. The One World religion will deceive the world.

There are False Prophets among us right now, claiming to teach and preach the word of God. Speaking openly against God by admitting to homo-sexuality or involved in same-sex marriages, which the church and Elders allow.

Many 21st Century churches have become indoctrinated by worldly teachings that are not scriptural.  Unscriptural sins were once unacceptable, are now acceptable as Christians refuse to disagree with unscriptural world views.

White Horse represents Victory but the rider is not Christ!

The Black Horse of Prophecy

The rider of the Black horse represents scarce Food and Famine. There are many news reports of starvation in countries less fortunate than the United States. Many nations support the rider on the black horse by spreading  Socialist views leading to famine and destruction. Third World countries are suffering from starvation like the world has never seen.

Venezuela was one of the wealthiest countries in South America. But the residents of the country can be seen in evening news are running behind garbage trucks begging for refuse because of hunger.

*The crisis intensified under the Maduro government, growing more severe as a result of low oil prices in early 2015, and a drop in Venezuela’s oil production from lack of maintenance and investment. … Most critics cite anti-democratic governance, corruption, and mismanagement of the economy as causes of the crisis.

*(See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisis_in_Venezuela)

The United States discards tons of food each day,  while other nations do not share this luxury.

In the future, according to scripture, wheat will be costly; not even the citizens of the United States will be able to afford bread; it will be a luxury. And, anyone refusing the Mark of the Beast (One World Government) will be unable to buy or sell without the Mark (Revelation 13:17)!

The worse is yet to come!

Power to Remove Peace, Rider of the Redhorse.

This red horse is galloping around the world, sowing discord among the nations. There are wars and rumors of wars!

Scripture supports the events happening in our world today. But many people never read their Bibles, so they have no idea why the world is falling into darkness and Casio and bloodshed is on the rise in our streets!

Disrespect for law and order as Governors stand watching as citizens and children are slaughtered in the streets and cities burn.

Death and Pestilence Pale Green Rider

This horse described as carrying the grave. The description of having the grave indicates numerous deaths as the rider completes his assigned ride.

Recently the world has been afflicted by a Pandemic outbreak of diseases that has no known vaccine.

Unlike AIDS, usually contracted by sexual sin, is killing thousands! COVID-19 is airborne and on surfaces. The Pandemic has led to the closing of schools, churches, and other venues. The world has been forced into Social Distancing, leaving many Americans unable to work. Thousands are losing their lives to the dreaded disease as we wait and pray for a vaccine.

Apocalypse Are Riding Now! The riders were given the power to destroy one-fourth of the earth (Rev.6:8).  In Rev. 6:8, God is not destroying the whole world but a small section giving humanity time to repent of their sins.

 God’s judgment is not complete!

Even in the wrath of God, there is mercy and love! He could have destroyed the world without giving humanity any time to repent from sin but has chosen to provide the world with downtime to think and pray.

The Purpose of Prophecy

Believers in Christ should know the purpose of prophecy is to save those who have strayed away from the Bible and the teachings of God’s word.

God’s love and mercy for humanity are like the days of Noah!

Scripture tells us that there will be a time very much like the days of Noah.  (Matthew 24:37-38-39 NIV) supports this claim.

But as in the days of Noah, so shall also the coming of the Son of man. Before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark. They knew not until the flood came and took them all away, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

This scripture describes the times in which we are now living. Humanity has not changed since the days of Noah, though probably more perverse than the days of Noah!

God will not remain silent as humanity against the Holy Bible. Sin and perversion will not be tolerated!

God has chosen to speak to us through Prophecy, warnings from God to humanity to Repent from Sin!

Jesus was sent to save us from our sins! Christ came from heaven to take our punishment for sins that were not his own.

Why? Because of love. Jesus is incapable of sinning, though he was 100% human! Yet, He never sinned!
